Combining forces with BLOOD, the dark-wave solo project of Nick Schubert (GGOOLLDD), and drummer/producer Mark Stewart (GGOOLLDD, Pharo) the duo aimed to expand their musical identity through collaborative efforts. The result? A synth-soaked, shimmery testament to exploration and acceptance, tinged with all the wistfulness and nostalgia of an 80's prom scene. Weaving through BLOOD's dreamy production, Huff's vocals switch between intimate cries of wanting to belong and a powerful chorus that assures the listener that the answers they seek start with embracing their personal identity. As a member of the LGBTQ community, Huff wanted to create a track that addressed the in-between juncture of feeling lost in your sexuality before coming out, as well as the warmth that comes in those first moments of reassurance.
The track was mixed by This Random Machine at the Hear Here Presents studio, mastered by Justin Perkins at Mystery Room Mastering, and the cover art was created by Madison Phillips.
In tandem with single's debut, the team is excited to announce they have partnered with the Milwaukee LGBT Community Center to donate all proceeds from the track towards their vitally important Transgender Name Change Project. Apt to its title, Painmonger explores the depths of pain, identity, transformation, and the societal gaze placed upon these processes. Central to this theme, the song blossoms as Amanda delivers the question “who do you become when it’s too much?”, toeing the line between mocking and inspiring. This Random Machine’s production skills shine in this unconventional arrangement, with dancing synths, pads and textures bolstering every shift in the song for a fresh perspective.
This track was written and recorded by Amanda Huff and This Random Machine at the Hear Hear Presents studio, with additional percussion provided by Mark Stewart. Mastering was done by Justin Perkins at Mystery Room Mastering.
